Annual Report for 2020
by Dave ClineAnnual report, 2020, run dataThe Smithville Area Fire Protection District has released an Annual Report which details our responses and activities in 2020. In 2020, the Fire District saw an increase of 16% in the total number of incidents from 2019. While most of the additional responses where to emergency medical incidents, total fire incidents were up as well. The total number of public education and public relations events are down from previous years due in large part to fewer public gatherings due to the pandemic. In working with the Smithville School District, firefighters were still able to meet with students and provide fire safety materials during Fire Prevention Week. 2021 has already be off to a busy start. We look forward to hiring the first wave of new Firefighter-EMT positions provided by the 35-cent tax increased passed by the community in November 2020. The first 3 new Firefighters will start in July of 2020. Lastly, 2021 is the 100-year anniversary of the first Fire Department organized to serve the Smithville Community. We will be recognizing that event and honoring all those who have served our community as Volunteer Firefighters throughout 2021. Proudly serving our community, Chief Dave Cline
